Authorities investigate collision that injured two Minnesotans

RURAL CERRO GORDO COUNTY – Police are investigating a two-car accident Tuesday that sent a pair of Minnesota women to Mercy Hospital.

According to the Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Office, on December 31, 2013 at 11:57 AM, a blue minivan driven by 55-year-old Thomas Anderson of Bird Island, Minnesota was struck in the rear by a tractor-trailer driven by 72-year-old Charles Holden of Box Elder, South Dakota. The collision occurred on the eastbound lane of Highway 18 at mile marker 193 in Cerro Gordo County.

Two female passengers – 21-year-old Vanessa Anderson, and 19-year-old Wendy Anderson, both of Bird Island, Minnesota – were transported to Mercy Hospital by Mason City paramedics. Their condition is unknown at this time.

The Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Office, the Iowa Department of Transportation, the Iowa State Patrol, and the Nora Springs Fire Department assisted deputies at the scene.

The accident is under investigation by the Cerro Gordo Sheriff’s Department.
