One dead after driver reaches into back seat, causes head-on collision

iowa-state-patrol-logo-doorRURAL UNION COUNTY, IOWA – An apparent case of distracted driving has claimed the life of a young Iowa woman.

According to the Iowa State Patrol, at about 3 PM Friday, a vehicle driven by 24-year-old Brittany Marshall of Clearfield, Iowa, was westbound on Highway 34 in rural Union County just east of Beachwood Avenue when, according to a report, she reached into the back seat.  Her vehicle, a 2007 Dodge Ram, crossed the center line and struck head-on a vehicle driven by 22-year-old Samantha Neely of nearby Creston, Iowa.

Marshall received serious injuries in the collision and was transported to an area hospital.

Neely was killed in the accident and pronounced dead at the scene.

The investigation is on-going.
