Data shows Asian, Hispanic voter registration lags

Data released Wednesday shows that only half of Hispanics and 60% of Asians are registered to vote.

According to Gallup, U.S. Hispanics and Asians are much less likely to be registered to vote than whites or blacks.  The polling organization reported that while more than eight in 10 blacks and whites are registered, and therefore able to vote in elections, 60% of Asians and barely half of Hispanics are currently able to participate in the electoral process.

The results are based on Gallup Daily tracking interviews conducted from July 1-Sept. 26, and include interviews with more than 4,000 Hispanics and 1,000 Asians.

Gallup claimed that a main reason why Asians and Hispanics have lower rates of voter registration overall is because many members of these racial and ethnic groups were not born in the United States.

How can you be a U.S. hispanic or asian, if you are not born here. If they weren’t born here, does that mean that they are here illegally, and the reason they are not registered..
