DUBUQUE – Cops were on the hunt for a wanted suspect here and after locating the troubled youth, had fire bullets when confronted with a knife.

Officers with the Dubuque Police Department responded to 800 block of Alpine, at approximately 11:50 a.m., on Tuesday, Dec. 24, on a report of a 16-year old subject with adult warrants. The suspect fled on foot upon contact with officers. During the incident the suspect displayed a knife. Two officers fired their duty weapons.

The officers rendered medical treatment on the suspect who was transported to the hospital with injuries to his arm and shoulder.

There is no danger to the public related to this incident, police say. The two officers involved in the shooting have been placed on critical incident leave, as is standard department policy.

The Dubuque Police Department has requested that the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigations to investigate the incident.
