MASON CITY – Shortly before 5:30 pm Friday evening, the Mason City Police Department responded to a two vehicle accident at 1634 N. Carolina Avenue, with a possible injury.

Chelse Holt had pulled out of her mother’s driveway at that address, when she was struck in the back by an oncoming truck.

“I was slowly backing out, like I always do, with my sister on the passenger side, and this truck comes speeding down the road and hits me,” said Holt. “He said to me, “you can see the skids marks where I tried to stop.  If he wasn’t speeding, there wouldn’t have been any skid marks.”

There was minor damage done to the truck, but the back of the Impala did show some damage.

Lori Whitney, Holt’s mom, said, “The driver of the truck asked if she had insurance and we told her that she had full coverage. We asked him, “what about you? He told us it was none of our business.”

The fifteen year old, who has had neck and back problems in the past, was transported, by ambulance, to Mercy Medical Hospital in Mason City.

Both drivers were issued citations. Eugene Timmons was driving a 1999 blue Dodge Ram 2500. Chelse Holt was driving a 2003 Silver Chevy Impala. Timmons was cited for for Failure to Prove Security Against Liability (No Insurance), and Holt for Unlawful Entry from Private Drive.

  1. If a truck is involved in any mishap, it is always the fault of the driver unless he has a good witness…Jim

  2. Speeding doesn’t cause skid marks. Making a sudden stop does. If he hadn’t tried to stop there wouldn’t be skid marks. Clearly and unfortunately, the accident was the young woman’s fault. These things happen. That’s why they call them accidents. Glad she had insurance. Hope the other driver loses his license if he didn’t.
