CLEAR LAKE – The City of Clear Lake is moving toward prohibiting the feeding of ducks and other waterfowl at designated beaches along the lake.

According to city documents, the city has had an interest in an ordinance for years that would prohibit feeding waterfowl.

Now, a proposed ordinance that would prohibit feeding waterfowl within 300 feet of any city-owned and maintained recreation area, including City Beach and North Lakeview Drive between Main Ave. and 4th Ave. North (seawall area) is being considered.

The ordinance has been presented to both the Clear Lake Chamber of Commerce’s Executive Board and the Association for the Preservation of Clear Lake’s Board and both have endorsed the measure.

The proposed ordinance reads that feeding waterfowl “may be detrimental to the animals” and the activity “causes a public health nuisance” and further that “problems created by waterfowl inside the city limits are increasing.”

After the city’s Parks & Recreation Advisory Board reviews the ordinance, the Clear Lake City Council may consider the ordinance at its May 6th meeting.

The ducks and geese are just like people, looking for the free government handouts…

This generation of Canadian Geese are not the natural population, they should not be fed by any of us. The more they are fed by humans, the more they will stick around and crap the place up. Don’t feed them, they will eat on their own or move south in the winter to find food. As long as they have food and water, they will stick around and multiply. Let nature take it’s course, they were never fed by humans for thousands of years and now they walk up to you, this is not nature, that is a a zoo setting.

Ban RAISES for public servants so we can afford bread scraps to feed the illeagel migrant ducks in CLERO LAKO !

I side with LVS. I side with the City of Clear Lake. I vote for the ban on feeding the birds in public places like the beach or park where people gather.

I am also a bird watcher and bird lover.

I am not a bird shit lover. I do not like to walk in bird shit.

Thankfully we have outhouses for people.

Some people are really full of it!!!

LVS – I don’t have to look at China = it’s already here.

The birds make a huge, unhealthy mess. That is why the ban. Also, they get used to being fed by people and then when it doesn’t happen they don’t know what top do. If you want to see bird messes go to Elmwood Cemetery. But wear your boots when you do. People line up by the pond there and feed the geese and then other people have to walk in it. If you think birds don’t carry disease look at China.

Even some humans carry diseases lets ban them too!

Ban the outragous property taxes needed to feed our fat cat public servants – don’t woory about the private sector feeding the wild life = they are eaing the scraps and poaching the duckies for a sunday meal – and I hope with meat.

I have an idea lets just ban everything!
