CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – The University of Northern Iowa men’s baketball team scored a 63-51 win over the University of Illinois-Chicago Flames in the second round of the CollegeInsider.com Tournament.

UNI (20-14) will advance to the quarterfinals and will host the Bradley Braves on Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the McLeod Center.

UNI trailed 41-38 with 8:42 left in the game, but the Panthers went on a 12-0 run to take a 50-41 lead with 5:35 left in the game. In the game’s decisive run, UNI’s Anthony James and Marc Sonnen drained three-pointers.

The Flames (18-16 overall) cut the lead to five on two occasions in the final 2:34 of the game, but the Panthers’ Chip Rank buried a three-pointer from the right corner with 1:24 left to provide a cushion. UIC’s Josh Crittle was then whistled for an offensive foul and a technical foul with 1:10 left to give UNI a 10-point lead at 61-51.

James scored a game-high 17 points and Seth Tuttle added 15 points for the Panthers.

Crittle led UIC with 12 points and nine rebounds.

NOTES: UNI has won 20 or more games in five consecutive seasons … Sonnen has made at least one 3-pointer in 21 straight games … Sonnen has made 197 career 3-pointers and needs just six more to tie Ben Jacobson’s school record of 203 3-pointers.
