CHARLES CITY — A multi-county traffic complaint ended in an arrest Thursday evening after Charles City police intercepted an intoxicated driver entering the city limits.

At approximately 6:43 p.m. on February 26, 2026, the Charles City Police Department received an alert from neighboring Chickasaw County regarding a white Chevrolet Impala. The vehicle was reportedly being operated by an intoxicated driver and was last seen traveling westbound on Highway 18 toward Charles City.

Officers positioned themselves along the highway and successfully located the vehicle. After initiating a traffic stop, authorities identified the driver as 27-year-old Holman Vazquez Cruz.

Following an on-scene investigation, Vazquez Cruz (pictured at top) was placed under arrest. He faces charges of Operating While Intoxicated (OWI). Records show he still awaits arraignment, which is set for April 10.

The Charles City Police Department frequently coordinates with surrounding agencies to intercept dangerous drivers before they reach high-traffic municipal areas. Vazquez Cruz was transported to the Floyd County Jail for booking.
