DCI Continues Investigation into Death of 13 month-old Iowa Child

Pacific Junction, IOWA — On Friday, February 1, 2013 at 10:54 AM, Mills County Communications Center received a 911 call reporting an unresponsive small child.  As a result of this call, rescue units were dispatched to a residence in Pacific Junction, Iowa.  Upon arrival, EMS personnel determined that the 13 month old child needed to be transported by medical helicopter to University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC) in Omaha, Nebraska.  The child was admitted to the pediatric intensive care unit with extensive injuries.

The child died on Saturday afternoon, February 2, 2013. The name of the child is not being released at this time.

An investigation surrounding the circumstances of the child’s injuries and death is on-going.  An autopsy was performed by the Iowa State Medical Examiner and investigators are awaiting those results.

The investigation is being conducted by the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation, Mills Count Sheriff’s Office, Iowa Department of Human Services and the Iowa State Patrol.

As the investigation is still underway, investigators will not release any additional information at this time.
