Statement from Iowa Federation of Labor President, Ken Sagar, in regard to the election results:

The American public have spoken and made it clear that this election could not be bought.

We are pleased with the election of President of Obama, but we are disappointed that Congressman Boswell was not re-elected and that Christie Vilsack will not be our first woman congressperson.

Hopefully the status quo make-up of the national congress will not mean that they will continue to be the most “do nothing” congress in history.

There is still a lot to do, and we hope that these elected officials are productive during the lame duck session, and will protect programs like Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security.

The elections here with the Iowa Legislature was promising, with labor endorsed candidates winning seats in the House, and a pro-worker majority in the Senate.

The over-whelming votes for Judge Wiggins sends a message that Iowans do not want their judges to be political pawns.

We need to remember that we are the United States of America. We need to get over the divisiveness this election brought to our door steps, and move forward getting people back to work,a fair tax code, and to unite around public policy for the good of all citizens of this great nation.

The statement that the election could not be bought is nothing but Bull Crap. Both sides spent millions trying to buy the election. The other party’s that were running had no publicity and no one knew who they were or what they stand for because they didn’t have the money behind them. That is why we have only a two party system. It takes a ton of money to run. The people that were elected must learn to work with eachother. It is called compromise.

Who we have in congress is know as the do “nothing congress” and yet the people must like it because it sure didn’t change. Reminds me when I was young and I would do something wrong the first time Mom was forgiving. Second time she said I should no better and got punished for it. Well I guess that is what is going to happen now. We will be getting punished because we didn’t learn the first time.

Very difficult to unseat House incumbents of either party due to the protective redistricting after the census. Now, if this was done by a nonpartisan commission, then we may see more regular turnover when the people decide it’s time for a change.

We now know the 2010 Congress accomplished so little because of the conspiracy to obstruct any progress in an effort to humiliate the President. How’s that working out for you, Mr. Speaker? Enjoy the slender majority while it lasts. Your time is coming. Change is coming. The white male vote no longer dominates from a majority position. Demographics and old ideas are dooming the present day Republican Party.

Its becoming a “what are you going to give me” society rather than as Pres Kennedy once said..”Ask not what your country can do for you but what you can do for your country”…He was a Dem. correct?

All in all, not a bad night for socialism!

Thats because it has been a socialist country for 80 years. The only ones that won’t admit that are the rich that take billions from the government every year but some how thats different then poor people taking government money.
