King-Vilsack Debate Finalized for Hampton, Iowa

HAMPTON – The Greater Franklin County Chamber of Commerce, Hampton, Iowa, is pleased to announce the scheduled debate of Rep. Steve King and Christie Vilsack on September 17, 2012, at the Historic Windsor Theatre in Hampton, Iowa. Both campaigns have agreed to a debate moderated by, Ryan Harvey, President and CEO of Hampton-based Mid-America Publishing.

Brook S. Boehmler, Executive Director of the Chamber, states, “We feel that our community will represent the majority of the newly formed 4th congressional district. Our community consists of great farm land, family owned businesses, and hard working families with a diverse cultural background. Our community is known for launching great companies like Sukup Manufacturing,ABCM Corporation, and Latham Hi-Tech Seeds, to name a few.

Greater Franklin County believes in good business and hard work, without sacrificing quality of life issues. We are Iowa and America at its best. The America Dream is still alive here in Greater Franklin County, Iowa.”

The debate will start after the 7:00 pm community presentation of “A Lesson in Liberty”, a portrayal of the 225th Anniversary of the signing of the Constitution. At 7:30 pm the candidates will be presented in a 60 minute debate format. Each candidate will give an opening remark. The candidates will then alternate answering questions from moderator Ryan Harvey; and finally, each candidate will have closing remarks.

Limited tickets will be available. The unedited event will be broadcast on the web and on radio. This will be one of the few times you will be able to hear and see the candidates together to present their plans and answer questions.

“Franklin County is a new addition to the Fourth District, as is a large portion of our readership area. Prior to the re-districting, only one paper in our company was the old Fourth District,” Harvey added. “By accepting this debate, both candidates will have an equal opportunity to educate potential voters about their positions.”

“I’m hopeful this debate will do just that,” Harvey added. “I look forward to meeting both candidates and presenting both of them an opportunity to speak to about these issues.”

Questions may be sent to Harvey via a special email account at mapdebate@gmail.com. All questions will be considered, however, candidates will only be able to answer 10 questions that evening.
