The Mason City Police Department has received two reports this morning about counterfeit bills received by local businesses. Once bill was a $10; the second was a $20. Both bills had clear, legible printing and correct color but there were other indicators (paper composition, size, cut, security strip, no watermark, etc) of being a counterfeit.
It is unknown if there are other undetected bills out there yet or if the unknown perpetrators are still in the area passing phony bills. Typically, counterfeiters will hit a large number of businesses in an area and leave the area before the bogus bills are detected during future transactions or deposits. The secret service website also has additional information.
Anyone with information about the people passing these bills is asked to contact local law enforcement.
Why dont MC police just look back into who has been in jail for passing phoney money and see where they are as they might have more bills that were made earlier. Shouldnt be to hard to find out more info on who likes phoney money in good ole River City
