MASON CITY – There were plenty of hard hits and enthusiasm Saturday afternoon as the North Iowa Bucks opened their season against the the Minnesota Silverbacks on the east field on the Mason City High campus.
The Bucks lost the game 38-19 to Silverbacks, but the players seemed to have a lot of fun and were really into the game. There was a nice fan gallery cheering on both teams.
The action was definitely hard-hitting. Several players early in the game had to be helped off the field due to seemingly minor injuries, but most returned to action once the pain subsided.
Both team traded early touchdowns, with the Bucks scoring first after the opening kickoff to the Silverbacks was fumbled and recovered by the Bucks.
The Bucks struck back on their very next possession with a long play for a touchdown.
Head Coach Charles Green, of Mason City, told NorthIowaToday.com that “the Silverbacks passing attack in the second half was hard to overcome, and made the difference in the game.”
The North Iowa Bucks are a start-up semi-pro football team in the Southern Plains Football League, with teams participating from Minnesota, South Dakota, and now Iowa with the addition of the Bucks.
The Bucks next play the Dakota Doom, Saturday, May 7th at 7:00 PM in Lake Benton, MN.
