The visitation will continue Thursday at the church beginning at 10:00 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in memory of Ann are preferred to Mayo Clinic Cancer Research or Howard County Community Hospice. In honor of Ann, formal attire is strongly discouraged. She would have preferred everyone to dress casually (e.g., jeans, Western wear, cowboy boots, or Green Bay Packers attire).

Ann Marie Boyle was born on March 2, 1958, daughter of Robert Sr. and Lorraine (Miller) Boyle in Waterloo, IA. Ann grew up in the Denver, IA, area where she participated in track, and graduated with the class of 1976 from Denver High School. She was a “tomboy” that enjoyed being outdoors and racing motocross cycles. Ann married Brad Boeckmann and together the couple had two daughters: Joie Ann and Jessica Adell; they later divorced. She married Carl Shimek Jr. and together the couple had two sons: Justin Edward and Jordan Michael; they later divorced. Ann referred to life events prior to 1994 as BD, before Dave.

On March 5, 1994, Ann went on a blind date with Dave Neubauer near Bassett, IA at Bassett Country Club. Both parties were very reluctant to attend the date, and needed a little push from Ann’s sister, Mona, and friend Mike “Dirt” Schroeder. In true Ann fashion, she had her directions confused, as has become one of her well-known trademarks. The two had an instant connection, and Ann knew she had met her soulmate. The two stayed up until 5 a.m. the next day talking. On July 11, 1997, Ann and Dave were married by Fr. Michael Fitzgerald, “Fr. Fitz”, at Assumption Catholic Church in Cresco. This was the last wedding held at Assumption before it closed, and the last wedding for Fr. Fitz prior to his transfer.

Ann and Dave farmed NW of Cresco near Bonair. She was active all season on the farm; where she worked tirelessly at Dave’s side during planting, haying, and harvest. Ann hauled a good portion of the grain to bins and trucked corn to ethanol plants. In earlier years, Ann enjoyed parttime bartending at John’s Lounge which later became Kleve’s Pub. She thoroughly enjoyed the social interaction with everyone who came into the bar. Ann loved tending the cattle, her chickens, and an ever-changing variety of other critters including Sparky the despised Dog, whom she loved dearly. She had a huge heart for wildlife and animals in general. Ann was a truly imaginative “Irish Woman” that could design, build, or fix anything given some twine, wire, duct tape, or discarded farm equipment.

Ann worked hard and made time to play hard. She loved decorating for holidays, special occasions, and truly enjoyed creating feasts for the entire Troop. Ann hosted many Packers Party’s which included select Vikings and Bears fans. She particularly enjoyed old Westerns and movies, and to Dave’s dismay, television sitcoms including “Everyone Loves Raymond”. During Ann’s stay at Mayo Clinic, Dave and Ann fell in love with the live action movie “Lilo & Stitch”.

She had a love/hate relationship with energetically tending to the lawns and farmsteads. Ann was an active member of the ISU Master Gardeners. Her love for gardening and flowers extended to plants at the Mighty Howard County Fairgrounds; where she volunteered for making Halos and participated in plant auctions. Her imagination and expertise with plants could be found all around the farm, including in wooded areas and on the many nature trails she and Dave built over the years.

Ann had a lifelong love for horses. She loved camping trips which included trail rides with her siblings and family in the Midwest, Montana Rocky Mountains, and Black Hills of South Dakota. She was born and raised with horses and had a deep love for them.

Ann was an avid supporter of the “Bent and Dent” Amish Store from which Ann assembled a stockpile of food and supplies, enough to survive a global catastrophe. There is speculation the store may be on the verge of bankruptcy. She was a well-known “Clutterbug”, with her extensive Breyer Horse collection. Ann had a vast assortment of travel memorabilia, a massive collection of “nicknacks” and “whatnots” including any gift ever received, enough to fill every nook and cranny of her home. The same behavior resulted in filling every outbuilding with any manner of “Ann-ovation”. They included her discards, gadgets, and assortment of “Good Junk” she could dream up a use for in some unknown project within the next few decades.

Ann and Dave loved exploring much of the USA, especially the West and mountains. They traveled to Mexico, Caribbean, Puerto Rico, Cuba, Central and South America, including multiple trips to Costa Rica, Panama, Belize, Peru, Chile, Argentina, and their farmland in Brazil. Dave and Ann also visited Ireland and enjoyed several cruises.

Ann was a remarkable woman who will be remembered and missed by all that were blessed with her acquaintance. She was a strong, fearless, bubbly, fun loving, energetic, ambitious, easy-going person. She made friends with everyone she met.

She is survived by her husband of 28 years David Louis Neubauer of Lime Springs, IA; 4 children: Joie Ann (Josh) Schreiber of Cresco, IA, Jessica Adell (Joseph) Bormann of Bellevue, IA, Justin Edward (Carlene) Shimek of Waucoma, IA, and Jordan Michael (Ashley) Shimek of Lime Springs, IA; 16 grandchildren: Eric Meyerhoff, Trevor (Hannah) Meyerhoff, Madison Lukes, Jacob, Nicholas, and Anna Bormann, Lillian Duckworth, Brinley, Brody, and Amelia Shimek, Jocelynn, Jarett, and Jaelah Shimek; Joelie, Jessie, and Jentrey Schreiber. 1 great granddaughter, Raelynn Lukes; siblings: Deborah (Mike) Slivinski, Mona Boyle, Robert (Kathy) Boyle Jr., Wendy (Tim) McCready, and Rebecca (Mike) Wedemeier; many nieces and nephews; her 3 horses Butte, Cherokee, and Cochise; dog Sparky; herd of chickens; and assortment of farm cats.

Ann was preceded in death by her parents Robert Sr. and Lorraine Boyle, father and mother-in- law Vince and Elizabeth Neubauer.
