PERCIVAL, IOWA – An Iowa man allegedly went ballistic on a semi truck driver, chasing the victim up a freeway in an escalating series of attacks until he threw a steel pickup hitch ball through the semi’s front windshield, and now consequences are on the horizon.
On Wednesday, June 25, 2025, at approximately 4:05 PM, the Fremont County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a road rage incident involving a commercial motor vehicle on 195th Avenue in rural Percival, Iowa, escalating onto Interstate 29 North.
A police investigation revealed that the defendant, allegedly, driving a blue pickup truck, engaged in a series of escalating actions toward a semi-truck driver on 195th Avenue. The defendant allegedly performed multiple “brake checks,” drove erratically, and stopped his vehicle in the roadway to confront the semi-truck driver, kicking the side of the semi as it drove around him. The confrontation continued onto I-29 North, where the defendant reportedly swerved at the semi. As the incident progressed, the defendant stopped his vehicle, exited, and, while the semi was traveling at interstate speeds, threw a 1 7/8″ steel pickup hitch ball, which penetrated the semi’s front windshield. Dash camera footage aided in identifying the defendant.
Following the investigation, 42-year-old Cory Gene Behrens of Percival, Iowa, was arrested on July 2. He faces the following charges:
– Intimidate with Dangerous Weapon
– Going Armed with Intent
– Criminal Mischief 4th Degree ($300-$750)
– Assault with Intent to Inflict Serious Injury
Behrens was released the next day after posting 10% of $18,000 bond.
