December 1, 1924 – June 14, 2025
Crystal Marie Field passed away on June 14, 2025, at age 100. Born December 1, 1924, and raised on a farm near Renville, MN. Her first job was a teacher in a rural one-room schoolhouse. On June 12, 1953, she married Warren “Doc” Field. The couple lived in Des Moines, IA, Clear Lake, IA, and Greeley, CO. She spent her final nine years in Clear Lake with her daughter Carolyn and her grand pup, George. Each evening, Crystal found comfort in reading her Bible and Our Daily Bread devotional, a practice that sustained and strengthened her throughout those final years.
Crystal and Warren traveled across the country from Seattle to South Carolina, taking in the beauty of America while serving their family along the way. Her Christian faith was important to her, especially during her courageous recovery from alcoholism—a journey she shared to encourage others. A few of her interests were playing cards, sewing, and knitting. Mother loved people, had many friends, her door was open, and her sense of humor produced a contagious laugh.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Anna Schemel, brother Gordon and husband Warren. She is survived by Robert Field (Mary), Linda Dollar (Mike), Rick Field (Marcia), Lori Saving (David), Carolyn Prohaska, and Holly Hoffart (Jeff), along with 15 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren.
Crystal will be interred the summer of 2026 beside her husband at the Ventura, IA cemetery, their final lakefront home.
Crystal’s life was marked by faith in Jesus Christ, leaving gifts of courage, honesty and love. For by grace Crystal has been saved through faith. And this is not her own doing; it is the gift of God; not a result of works, so that no one may boast. Ephesians 2:8-9.
