Dennis Kay Looft, the son of Fred and Burdell (Benton) Looft, was born on February 16, 1934, in Swea City, Iowa. He passed away at Valley Vue Care Center in Armstrong, Iowa on May 30, 2025, at the age of 91 years.
He graduated from Swea City High School in 1953. He was married to Janice Berven, to this union, five children were born, Linnea, Dennis “Butch”, Douglas, Mike, and Scott. The couple later divorced.
Denny worked for Arts Way, the Kossuth County Park Maintenance, the Swea City Lumber Yard and eventually owned and operated Looft’s Sanitation for many years. He was proud to have built the bridges at Smith Lake in Algona, which are still being used today.
In his free time, Denny enjoyed welding, gardening, flea markets, dancing, mowing lawns and just putzing around. He enjoyed watching his grandson, Matt, race his #9 sports mod car at local racetracks and spending time with his sweetie.
Denny is survived by his children, Linnea Cook, Dennis “Butch” Looft, Mike (Staci) Looft, and Scott Looft; five grandchildren, Nicole Cook, Tanner Looft, Jon (Amy) Looft, Matt (Brittney) Looft, and Amy (Zack) Feser; nine great-grandchildren, Hunter, Victoria, Jaylen, Miley, Brayden, Brysen, Brynlee, Bodhi, and Milo; his Sweetie of 25 years, Kathy Martinson; and his cat, Lily.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Burdell (Benton) Looft, two brothers, Wayne and Alan, an infant son, Douglas, his ex-wife, Janice, and his first cat, Putz.
Burial in Harrison Township Cemetery will be held at a later date.
