Iowa woman accused of setting her house on fire

Authorities say this Iowa woman started her house on fire, sending the other occupants scurrying for their lives, and now the alleged arsonist is facing stiff consequences.

BURLINGTON, IOWA – Authorities say this Iowa woman started her house on fire, sending the other occupants scurrying for their lives, and now the alleged arsonist is facing stiff consequences.

On May 24, 2025 at approximately 5:19 P.M, the Burlington Fire Department and Officers from Burlington Police Depart-ment responded to a structure fire at 1519 Thul Street. All occupants that were inside the residence were able to make it out safely. Based on the information gathered, responding officers and fire command believed the incident to be suspicious. The Burlington Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Division and the Iowa State Fire Marshal Division responded to investigate.

After collecting evidence and conducting interviews, the resident of 1519 Thul Street was identified as Rosilie Lynn Young and placed under arrest for Arson 1St Degree (B Felony).

Young (pictured at top) was transported to the Des Moines County Jail and booked on the charge stated above.
