Penny Lee Miller, was born on April 4, 1943 in Vancouver, Washington, to Ronald and Grace (Hubbard) Schenck. She passed away on Sunday, August 25, 2024, at Accura Care Center of Spirit Lake at the age of 81.
Penny moved with her family to Estherville at a young age and graduated from Estherville High School in 1961. While getting ice cream at the Dairy Queen after a night of skating she met Alvin Miller and asked him out on a date. The date went well, and the couple was united in marriage on November 28, 1964, at First Christian Church in Estherville. She worked at Golden Sun Feeds until their children were born. Penny had the privilege of staying home and raising her children, until they were of school age, at which time she returned to the work force at Wadco and later Berkley’s, where after 33 years she retired.
Penny was a lifelong member of First Christian Church in Estherville. She enjoyed sewing and made many of her children’s outfits throughout the years. Later in life she enjoyed quilting. Penny had a contagious laugh and smile, that she loved to share with her family and friends. She was affectionately known as the fun and laughing grandma. She had a green thumb and had a beautiful flower garden.
Penny is survived by her husband Alvin of Estherville; her children Kim Williams of Estherville, Kevin (Shelley) Miller of Spirit Lake, and Kurt (Lisa) Miller of Weyauwega, WI; six grandchildren Gabby (Keaton) Alons, Gina (Alec) Dimig, Winter Williams, Mya Miller, Kayla (Dakota) Linjer, and Daniel (Megan) Miller; ten great-grandchildren and one on the way; and her brother Blaine (Mary) Schenck of Portland, Oregon.
Penny is preceded in death by her parents, and Alvin’s parents Dan and LaVernia (Hildreth) Miller.
