Christi Wyborny, 73, passed away peacefully at her home on August 24, 2024, after a three month battle with cancer.

Christi Jo Ryan was born on February 10,1951 in Webster City, IA to Richard and Barbara Ryan. She was the oldest of seven siblings. Christi graduated from Nora Springs-Rock Falls with the class of 1969. She spent many years as a nurse, working at Mercy Hospital in Mason City, IA and Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. Christi began her career as an LPN in 1970, first working in the surgical unit and later in the intensive care unit. She later became a registered nurse and earned her BSN, working in various departments including critical care, the emergency room, and case management. In addition to her clinical work, she volunteered for the Nora Springs Ambulance and she also taught courses part-time at North Iowa Area Community College.

On September 23, 1972, Christi was united in marriage to James Wyborny at the Methodist Church in Nora Springs. Together, they welcomed four children: Eric, Libby, Aly, and Kizzy.

Christi’s greatest joy was her family, and she was rarely seen without one or more of her grandchildren by her side. She showered them with enough love to last a lifetime. She loved baking and was known for preparing countless snack bags and giving her grandchildren the freedom to explore their creativity throughout her home.

Her kindness and selflessness will be remembered by all who knew and loved her.

Christi is survived by her mother, Barbara Ryan-Hof; her husband of almost 52 years, James Wyborny; her son, Eric (Maggie) Wyborny; her daughters, Libby Wyborny, Aly (Justin) Crum, and Kizzy (Tony) Jansen; her grandchildren, Cole and Olive Wyborny, Rylee and Tucker Crum, and Gabby, Olivia, and Makayla Jansen; and her siblings, Melody (Jim) Lunde, Lance Ryan, Kit Ryan, and Adri Whitehurst.

Christi was preceded in death by her father, Richard Ryan; her stepfather, Howard Hof; and her brothers, Andrew Ryan and Shawn Ryan.

Christi was able to fulfill her final wishes thanks to the exceptional care she received from her daughters, Libby, Aly, and Kizzy, and sister Melody Lunde, as well as her hospice care team.

Sheckler Colonial Chapel of Nora Springs has been entrusted with Christi’s final arrangements.

The family will hold a celebration of life gathering, open to friends and family, on September 7, 2024 from 11:30 am – 2:00 pm at Tony and Kizzy Jansen’s house, 901 Harvest Court, Nora Springs, IA 50458. A private family graveside memorial service will be held at Park Cemetery in Nora Springs.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed in care of the family. Cards can be sent to James Wyborny, 1010 Balsam Ave, Nora Springs, IA 50458
