Roland E. Barr Jr., 94, of Charles City, passed away on Tuesday, May 28, 2024, at 9th Street Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City.

To honor Roland’s wishes, there will not be a memorial service. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Wounded Warrior Project, Disabled American Veterans (DAV), or to a charity of your choice.

Roland Ernest Barr Jr., the son of Roland Sr. and Florence (Meyer) Barr, was born on August 9, 1929, in Charles City. Roland was united in marriage to Annette Baldwin on March 15, 1948. Roland attended Mason City NIACC to achieve his master electrician certificate. He worked at various jobs and for Solvay for 28 years until his retirement.

For many years, Roland and Annette traveled down to Texas to spend their winters. After their retirement in 1991, they moved to Mercedes, Texas, where Roland worked at a rock shop and made jewelry and belt buckles. He loved to play pool, and in his younger years, enjoyed building RC airplanes with his son. Roland also loved to spend time outdoors rock hunting, camping, and fishing.

Living family members include his children: Steven (Diane) Barr of Charles City, Glenda (Richard) Morgan of Merriville, Indiana, Terri (Chuck) Bidelman of Lansing, Michigan, and Fran Steltzner of Mason City; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; sister, Merrilinn (Dick) Onstine of Clarkston, Washington; and brother, Richard Barr of Charles City.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Annette Barr; son, David Barr; grandchildren, Jamie Barr Fox and Chris Thurow; brother, Dennis Barr; and sister-in-law, Kathy Barr.
