Mark was a life-long Iowa boy. He spent his early years on a dairy farm in West Des Moines where he attended Sacred Heart Elementary. The family later moved to Pleasantville, IA, where he enjoyed growing up on a farm with his siblings. Mark graduated from Pleasantville High School, class of 1973. Mark studied agriculture and animal science at Iowa State University. Loyal, forever true, he graduated in 1977. It was here he met his lifelong love and best friend, Bea (Trettin). The couple married on August 28, 1976 at Zion Lutheran Church.

Mark and Bea moved to Rockford, IA in 1978. Here they raised three daughters. Mark worked at the family-owned farms for over thirty years. When the daughters graduated from high school, Mark and Bea moved to Mason City, IA. Mark truly enjoyed his profession as an auditor for agricultural business for the remainder of his life, traveling across the country and working with animals.

Always one to keep busy, Mark enjoyed fishing, horses, landscaping and watching the Iowa State Cyclones. Mark’s greatest accomplishment and deepest love was his family. His three daughters and their families were his pride and joy. A deeply beloved father and grandfather, he cherished his time with them more than anything.

He is survived by his wife Bea Volk of 47 years; daughters Michelle Volk, Stephanie (Augie) Nguyen, and Brittany (Colby) Martin; grandchildren, Ayden Volk; Amelia, Luca and Jamison Nguyen, and Parker, Beau and Chay Martin; siblings, Kathy (Joe) Follett, Patrick (Lisa) Volk, and Julie (Joel) Villines; as well as many beloved nieces, nephews, friends and extended family.

Preceding him in death are his parents, Ed and Jean; parents-in-law, Harold and Frances Trettin; and both his maternal and paternal grandparents.
