Harold J. Blumer, 88, of Garner, passed away Tuesday, May 16, 2023, at Hancock County Memorial Hospital in Britt.

Harold J. Blumer, 88, of Garner, passed away Tuesday, May 16, 2023, at Hancock County Memorial Hospital in Britt.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am, Saturday, May 20th at the United Methodist Church in Garner with Rev. Kristin Peters officiating. Burial will be at Concord Township Cemetery with military rites by the Garner Veterans Ceremonial Unit.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 pm, Friday at Cataldo Funeral Chapel, 160 E. 4th St., Garner and will continue one hour prior to services at the church.

Memorials may be directed to the Harold Blumer Memorial Fund and will be used to donate to his favorite charities.

Harold Junior Blumer, the son of Jacob and Fannie (Heginger) Blumer, was born December 31, 1934, on a farm north of Garner. He attended country school and graduated from Garner High School. Harold served his country in the US Army as a Sgt until his honorable discharge in May of 1963. On June 23, 1956, he married Marlys Rafferty at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. They lived in several communities in Iowa including Mason City, Des Moines, Marshalltown and Storm Lake. Harold worked as a service manager for Massey Ferguson for over thirty years. In 1987, he returned to Garner and worked part-time on the farm with Jessie Pringnitz. Harold was a very talented mechanic and could fix anything. He was known for his restoration of garden tractors and draft horse collection. His family and friends will remember him for his hard work ethic and the candy he kept in his pocket to give to others.

He was a member of the Garner United Methodist Church and a lifetime member of the Ventura Gun Club.

Harold is survived by his children, Doug Blumer of Mason City, Sheila (Kevin) Kelly of Garner and Thomas Blumer of Clear Lake; nine grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; a brother, Don Blumer of Cassville, WI; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Cynthia Lou Francis in 2004; two sisters, Betty (Alvin) Halverson and Ivadell (Raymond) Schoenwetter; a brother, Robert (Iola) Blumer; and a sister-in-law, Thelma Blumer.
