NIACC softball team ranked 18th

MASON CITY - The NIACC softball team is ranked No. 18 in the latest NJCAA Division II rankings released Monday.

MASON CITY – The NIACC softball team is ranked No. 18 in the latest NJCAA Division II rankings released Monday.

NIACC, which was No. 15 in the March 6 poll, was 3-3 at the Midwest Bash Juco Classic in Evansville, Ind. The Trojans topped No. 19 Danville Area CC (8-0), Olney Central College (18-2) and Shawnee CC (16-6) and fell to Wabash Valley College (13-10), Three Rivers CC (11-7) and Jefferson College (17-12).

NIACC entered the 2023 rankings at No. 17 in the Feb. 27 poll.

In this week’s poll, Murray State (26-0) is ranked No. 1 and Phoenix (20-4) is ranked second.

DMACC (12-3) is ranked third, Kirkwood (10-4) is ranked 11th and Iowa Lakes (8-0) entered the rankings at No. 20.

NIACC returns to action Tuesday in a doubleheader at Fort Scott CC in Fort Scott, Kan.

The Trojans will also play a pair of games in Overland Park, Kan. on Wednesday. They will face Indian Hills at 1 p.m. and Johnson County CC at 3 p.m.
