97-year-old Iowa driver dies in auto crash; child hurt

DALLAS COUNTY, IOWA - A 97-year-old Iowa driver died in an auto crash, and a child was also hurt as a result.

DALLAS COUNTY, IOWA – A 97-year-old Iowa driver died in an auto crash, and a child was also hurt as a result.

Dallas county, Iowa deputies responded to a 3- vehicle accident on the morning of September 20, 2022, at the intersection of I Avenue and Highway 6. At 11:14 AM that morning, a 2001 Dodge Grand Caravan driven by 97-year-old Arnold Philip Whitney of Redfield, Iowa, was southbound on I Avenue and filled to yield at a turn onto Highway 6. The van was struck by another vehicle, sending it into the path of a third vehicle.

As a result of the crash, Whitney died at the scene, and two other persons were hurt, including a child.

Deputies were assisted by the Iowa State Patrol, Dallas County EMS, Adel Fire Department, and the Redfield Fire Department.
