Three Mason City residents hurt when transit driver suffers medical emergency, crashes into another car

MASON CITY – Three Mason City residents were hurt Friday morning when a transit river suffered a medical emergency and crashed head-on into another car.

The accident took place Friday, March 11, 2022. At 10:40 AM that morning, 69-year-old transit driver Terry Wolters was westbound on the north driveway at Hy-Vee west win Mason City when he suffered a medical emergency and lost control of the vehicle. The caused the transit bus to swerve left into the path of an eastbound 2011 Dodge Caravan driven by 76-year-old Bobby Dirks of Mason City. The two vehicles struck head-on, and the transit then struck a tree in the parking lot.

Injured in the accident was Terry Wolters, Bobby Dirks and 77-year-old Joyce Dirks. All were transported by ambulance to Mercy One Mason City.

Things happen. No reason to make a fuss about it. Could happen to anyone, anytime.

Terry is a great man and this was a medical emergency and it’s unfortunate but nobody should think it was anything but that. He cares deeply about people and was more devestated by the possibility of others being hurt than why he had his own medical issue.
