ANKENY – The City of Ankeny announced that Brent Hinson of Mason City will be their new assistant city manager beginning June 22, 2026.

As assistant city manager, Hinson (pictured at top) will support day-to-day operations and help advance priorities set by the City Manager and City Council. He will work with departments on major projects and initiatives, guide policy development and implementation, evaluate operations and recommend improvements, and serve as acting city manager as needed.

“Brent will be a strong addition to our team as Ankeny continues to grow and we take on new priorities. His experience, ability to work through complex challenges and track record of success made him a clear choice for this role,” said City Manager Mike Schrock.

Hinson is currently the deputy city administrator in Mason City where he has served in this role since 2021. He has more than 23 years of experience in senior management roles in four Iowa cities. Hinson is an ICMA Credentialed Manager and past Iowa League of Cities board member. He holds a Master of Public Administration degree from Drake University.

“Ankeny is one of the premier communities in Iowa and I look forward to working in this important role. I am pleased to join the Ankeny team and to be a part of the community’s vision and future success,” said Brent Hinson.

The City conducted a nationwide search for the assistant city manager. Hinson will succeed Schrock, who became the city manager in December.
