Gov. Reynolds names Michael Boal as new Senior Legal Counsel

Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds
DES MOINES – Governor Reynolds this week announced that Michael Boal has been promoted to Senior Legal Counsel in the Office of the Governor. Boal has served as the Governor’s Deputy Legal Counsel since November 2018, and replaces Sam Langholz, who is joining the Office of the Attorney General.

“Michael is an outstanding attorney with a strong work ethic and passion for public service,” said Gov. Reynolds. “His background in private practice, experience with Iowa’s Judicial Branch, and as deputy legal counsel in my office, has given him the depth of knowledge and hand-on experience necessary for this role. Michael is an incredible asset to my team, and I’m fully confident in his legal and leadership abilities.”

Prior to joining the Office of the Governor, Boal was in private practice at a law firm in Des Moines. After graduating from the University of Nebraska College of Law, he clerked for district court judges in Iowa’s Fifth Judicial District and for Justice Edward Mansfield on the Iowa Supreme Court. Boal was born and raised in Ankeny, Iowa and currently lives in Urbandale with his wife and son.
