FORT DODGE – A Fort Dodge teen was shot dead Tuesday, police there said.

On September 10, at approximately 12:45 PM, the Webster County Telecommunications Center received a call regarding a 17-year-old male who had sustained a gunshot wound. Officers and medical first responders were sent to 721 North 8th Street. Once on scene, Fort Dodge Officers discovered a male inside of the residence who had sustained a single gunshot wound. Upon initial examination of the victim by medical personnel on scene, the victim was determined to be unresponsive. The Webster County Medical Examiner arrived a short time later and the male was pronounced deceased on scene.
Due to the nature of the incident, a scene perimeter was set up around the residence and the Division of Criminal Investigations (DCI) was contacted with a request for their resources, including the mobile crime scene processing lab. The lab team arrived later this afternoon and processed the scene.

At this time, police are not releasing the name of the victim, out of respect for any family and friends who have yet to be appropriately informed. They are working to determine an exact chain of events that led up to this incident and are utilizing all available resources within this investigation.

A follow-up release will be issued after notifications have been made and once more information is known about this tragic event.
