NIACC’s Lang inks with Columbia College

MASON CITY – NIACC sophomore guard Kyle Lang signed a national letter of intent Thursday to play basketball next season at Columbia College, a NAIA Division I school in Columbia, Mo.

Columbia College was 15-16 overall and 10-12 in the American Midwest Conference in the 2018-19 sesason.

“It just felt like a great fit for me,” Lang said of Columbia College. “All of the coaches seemed very interested in me and they were all very nice people.”

Lang, who prepped at Mason City High, spent his freshman season (2017-18) at Dordt College in Sioux Center and played his sophomore season at NIACC (2018-19).

Lang played an integral part on a NIACC men’s basketball team that was 25-5 overall, 12-2 in the ICCAC and advanced to the NJCAA Region XI title game before falling to eventual national champion Kirkwood.

Lang averaged 7.6 points per game with 63 assists and 34 steals. He shot 39.8 percent (49 of 123) from 3-point range and shot 80.6 percent (29 of 36) from the free-throw line.
Lang said he loved his time at NIACC and it helped prepare him for the next chapter of his academic and athletic career.
“Everyone that I met here helped me out,” Lang said. “Coach (Mark) Mohl and coach (Jeremy) Winters helped me out and the guys on the team helped me with my game.”
