RURAL FLOYD COUNTY – A Charles City man is dead after a two-vehicle collision Thursday morning in rural Floyd county.
According to the Iowa State Patrol, the accident took place Thursday, April 12, 2018 at about 8:25 AM near 270th Street and Packard Avenue. A 2006 Buick Rendezvous driven by 72-year-old Harold Vermeer of Charles City was southbound on Packard Avenue when it failed to stop at a stop sign at 270th Street. As a result, the vehicle was struck by a westbound bus driven 32-year-old Michael Katcher of Greene. Due to the collision, Vermeer was fatally injured. Katcher was hurt and taken to a Waverly hospital.
The Floyd county sheriff’s office, Marble Rock Fire, AMR Ambulance and Charles City fire department assisted with the accident, which is still under investigation.
