The Clear Lake Fire Department was dispatched to 100 15th Ave S for a reported structure fire, on Monday, May 8, 2017 at approximately 2152 hrs. The Clear Lake Fire Department responded with 1 Ladder Company, 1 Rescue Company, 1 Engine Company, 1 Command Vehicle, an Ambulance and 19 Firefighters and 2 Medics.
Officers with the Clear Lake Police Department were the first on scene and confirmed there was a working structure fire with heavy smoke coming out of the attic. Once on scene firefighters made entry through the front door and encountered fire in the crawl space to the attic, they were able to make quick knock down of the fire, and then started overhaul making sure all hot spots were extinguished. CLFD was on scene for just about 2 hours. Probable cause of the fire was a lightning strike from a severe thunderstorm that was rolling thru at the time.
No one was home at the time of the fire and no one was injured.
The owners of the house, Jarvis and Jill Whitinger of Nashua, said the house was insured. Estimated damage is over $100,000.
