MASON CITY – Repair work will be done this year on the Mason City water treatment plant.
The Mason City Water Works (treatment) plant is located at 339 13th Street NE. The construction consists of, but is not limited to, selective repointing of deteriorated exterior brick masonry, replacement of damaged brick, cutting and caulking new control joints, repointing and grouting of interior clay tile masonry, repair of cracked concrete, and replacement of architectural precast panels and supporting steel members and connections.
Work under the proposed contract is scheduled to be substantially completed by August 31, 2017.
The original building was constructed in the early 1960s. It’s masonry construction and from the description above, this is a tuckpointing project for the building and not part of the floodwall or the new addition. Tuckpointing is just periodic maintenance, similar to painting a building with wood siding. No big deal.
As I think about this I do recall after the flood in 2008 we spent about 20 million on this place and the sewage plant, What was the break down for the 13th st plant?
Isn’t this the plant that we rebuilt and spent alot of money on not too long ago?
It was rebuilt and the walls were added after the 2008 flood. And, a lot of equipment was repaired and up graded at that time. It definitely should have lasted longer than this. Henkle at work.

Who built that dump? It doesn’t seem like it is old enough to need all that repair.
