MASON CITY – Two new supervisors took the oath of office in Cerro Gordo county Tuesday morning.
Chris Watts and Tim Latham (both Republicans) were elected on November 8, 2016, replacing long-serving incumbents Phil Dougherty and Jay Urdahl (both Democrats), respectively. The newly-elected Supervisors took their oaths Tuesday morning at 9:15 AM with Judge Colleen Weiland officiating. Supervisor Casey Callanan was present as witness. Family and friends were present for the event.
Also swearing into office for new terms were Auditor Ken Kline and Sheriff Kevin Pals.
The regular meeting then proceeded at 10:00 AM sharp and lasted nearly 40 minutes. There were many organizational proceedings the board worked through, including appointing Casey Callanan as board Chairman and Chris Watts as Vice Chairman. Tim Latham was appointed administrator of the county farm. Board appointments were confirmed, with Mr. Watts taking a seat on the county board of health. Tim Latham took a seat on the North Iowa Landfill board.
The cost for Mason City’s December 9 city council special election was recognized at $13,051.20.

A few years ago Chris pushed hard to expand the number of County Supervisor from 3 to 5! Hey Chris, is that still part of your agenda, or now that you made it, 3 is enough?
Pals needs to be the next voted out.
