MASON CITY – Police stopped a man on a bicycle who ran a stop sign and discovered he was wanted on drug charges.

A Mason City police officer stopped two subjects on bicycles for running a stop sign, at the 300 block of 1st Street NW on November 2 at about 10:26 PM. One of the subject, 41-year-old Thomas Charles Smith of Mason City, was arrested on a warrant connected to possession of a controlled substance, second-offense, stemming from an arrest by the MCPD back in August.

Smith was also arrested on multiple other charges, including drug possession, paraphernalia possession and unlawful prescription drug possession.

Smith remains jailed on $4,000 bond as he awaits a court date next week.

They should treat these thugs the same way they used to go after drunk drivers. Pick a area and pull over everyone of them that comes by. They would clean up the streets in about a week.

Was he stopped because he was wanted, or, because he ran a stop sign. If it was the latter, the police could write tickets daily for bicyclists who run stop signs. Isn’t sharrows wonderful.
