IOWA CITY – A sex assault has been reported at a University of Iowa fraternity house.
The alleged sex assault took place this past weekend by an unknown assailant at an un-named fraternity house. The alleged victim was separated from friends before the assault took place.
This is the first sexual assault reported on campus this semester. The university has grappled with the issue of sexual assaults, with some previously saying not enough was being done to prevent these crimes.
The University of Iowa claims it “is committed to addressing sexual misconduct, dating violence, and stalking.” In a survey completed last year connected to sexual assault at the University of Iowa, 2,683 students completed the survey resulting in a response rate of 9.3%; 1972 of those were female students. In results that were released last week, since enrolling at the University of Iowa, 21% of the undergraduate female students who completed the survey reported being raped.
