MASON CITY – He failed at swiping booze from a grocery store, and then got cited trying to take cig’s – twice – from another shop.
On August 9, Bert Leroy Roberts Jr., age 60 of Mason City, allegedly tried to leave the Mason City Fareway store without paying for a pack of Uncle Mike’s Hard Lemonade valued at $17.71. Roberts was arrested on a charge of fifth-degree theft and taken to the county jail for processing. Roberts was banned from returning to the Fareway store property.
A couple of days later, Mason City police alerted NIT that Roberts was cited for fifth-degree theft after he allegedly shoplifted 1 carton of Marlboro Reds (cigarettes) valued at $64 two times – once on June 26 and again on July 26 from Hy-Vee West. Police say this is $128.00 of merchandise.
He was convicted 2 years ago of theft in the third degree here in Cerro Gordo county.
