Man wanted for attempted murder tazed at Walmart while fighting cop

FORT DODGE, IOWA – A wanted Northern Iowa man was cornered by a police officer in a Walmart store, but wouldn’t go without a fight.

Fort Dodge police say that they were tipped off that wanted man Jeremy Allen Werneburg, age 36, had been at the Walmart store in town and that an officer, Matt Burns, arrived there and confronted Werneburg. As officer Burns attempted to subdue and arrest Werneburg, Werneburg became violent with the officer and caused an injury to his knee. Officer Burns deployed his taser weapon upon Werneburg, and was able to make the arrest.

Werneburg was taken to the Webster county jail. He had been wanted in Sac County, Iowa for attempted murder. The charge stems from an incident on February 14, 2016 where Werneburg is alleged to have hit a Glidden, Iowa man on purpose with his car. Werneburg has connections in Humbolt, Carroll and the Ida Grove area.

Werneburg was additionally charged with assault on a peace officer causing injury and interference with official acts causing injury.
