Iowa prison bureaucracy grows by two after announcement of new positions

DEPUTY DIRECTOR/INSPECTOR GENERAL APPOINTMENTS

Iowa Department of Corrections Director Jerry Bartruff announced Friday to the Board of Corrections his Central Office restructuring and his new appointments as follows:

The Central Office restructuring eliminates Operations for the Eastern and Western Regions and creates an Office of Institution Operations and an Office of Judicial District Departments of Correctional Services Operations. Director Bartruff also announced a new Office of Inspector General with system wide responsibilities.

Daniel Craig is appointed Deputy Director of Institution Operations. Deputy Director Craig is currently the Warden of the Iowa Medical and Classification Center. Craig will provide direct supervision of the Department’s nine correctional institutions.

Sally Kreamer is appointed Deputy Director of Judicial District Departments of Correctional Services Operations. Deputy Director Kreamer is currently the Director of the Fifth Judicial District Department of Correctional Services with Administrative Office located in Des Moines. Kreamer will oversee the eight district departments of correctional services.

Diann Wilder-Tomlinson is appointed Inspector General. Inspector General Wilder-Tomlinson is currently the Deputy Director of the Western Region Operations. Wilder-Tomlinson’s responsibilities will include direct oversight of department policy, procedures and practices; legal services; internal investigations including those related to the Prison Rape Elimination Act; offender discipline; and jail inspections.

All appointees have extensive administrative corrections experience with proven leadership in the management, supervision and treatment of adult offenders.

All appointees will continue to focus on the Department’s Mission to Advance Successful Offender Reentry to Protect the Public, Staff and Offenders from Victimization.
