DES MOINES – The Iowa Senate sent a bill approving a raise for the state’s lowest earners to the House Tuesday.
The Democratically-controlled Senate approved a bill that would raise Iowa’s minimum wage from $7.25 an hour to $8.75 in two steps. The raise could affect up to 181,000 people earning minimum wage.
The Republican-controlled House would likely not pass a bill raising the minimum wage, political experts say, and Governor Terry Branstad has not indicated he would support such a move, either.
