Chickasaw county sheriff to get body cameras, body armor for deputies

police-body-cameraNEW HAMPTON – Equipment upgrades are on the way to the Chickasaw County Sheriff’s Office, Sheriff Todd W. Miller reported today.

“I have recently applied for a grant in the amount of $7,600 which would cover the purchase and first year licenses and expenses of Evidence.com video/audio storage and on-body video cameras for our Deputies,” Sheriff Miller said.

“We have researched the Taser “AXON Flex” body cameras and Evidence.com programs for the last several months and feel this is the best on the market at this time. We have also prepared for some expense in the coming budget, if approved.”

In addition, the purchase of seven sets of IBA’s (Individual Body Armor) have been arranged.

“Our Board of Supervisors graciously authorized the purchase to replace outdated body armor,” Sheriff Miller continued. “We were recently sized and are awaiting our purchase to show up.”

Each of the seven new ‘everyday worn’ vests are about $550 each. Each has a manufacturer’s warranty and they are good for about 5 years. They are made of Kevlar and other materials.

“Our deputies wear them everyday when they are serving our communities,” Sheriff Miller said, and thanked donors for helping finalize the purchases.

“This is in the forefront of everyone’s thinking with the deaths of so many law enforcement officers in the US recently,” Sheriff Miller continued. “IBA’s are not only created to stop and protect against gun fire incidents to vital organs, but help protect the deputy who may become involved in traffic accidents, altercations or other incidents, such as falling. IBA’s have two panels, a front and back panel. They surround the torso via cloth and Velcro carrier. They also come with an extra (added protective) ballistic panel to help protect vital organs (heart and lungs).”

So tell me what isn’t socialist about this action? A dept. applying for government assistance to get a need met. Grant = handout. Come on stalwarts of capitalism and anti-socialist Obama haters…where’s your righteous indignation? Oh yeah, it’s because socialism when applied for your purposes is perfectly acceptable. Police forces and military can be socialist all day long and it’s American as Apple Pie.

Probably a few flame throwers left over from Okinawa would’nt hurt either.

@bad-they could use some armored Humvee’s to patrol in too. Maybe a anti-tank weapon would help too.

I don’t know LVS, I kinda like the flame thrower idea. A couple behind the headlights and taillights sound good too.

@maybe-I would say that a flamethrower is in order as long as people like Philly are around.
