Two injured in crash on Mason City’s south side

cited-police-featured1MASON CITY – Two drivers were injured Saturday in a car accident on Mason City’s south side, just as the snow started to fall, which has led to other incidents throughout the day.

At about 11:25 AM, emergency responders were sent to the intersection at Highway 18 and Highway 65 near the former Rose Bowl. Zackary Huey, age 20 of Clear Lake, was northbound on Highway 65 when a vehicle driven by 16-year-old Sabrina Moore of Rudd slid through the stop sign as she exited Highwat 18, driving westbound, and a collision ensued. Both Huey and Moore were transported to Mercy Hospital by ambulance for evaluation.

Huey was issued a citation for expired registration and Moore was cited for driving under suspension and failure to obey a stop sign.

Throughout Saturday, as snow has fallen, cars have been in the ditches and numerous fender-benders have been reported.

People just need to slow down and DO NOT USE YOUR CRUISE CONTROL when there is snow or ice on the road. Most spin out are caused by this or braking.

Although we didn’t get much snow, drivers need to get a clue and slow down for the road conditions. I was headed northbound into Lake Mills today and a south bound Catalytic lost control on the road, spun out across my lane and ended up in the northbound ditch to my right. If this would have happened a few seconds before, I would have broadsided him in my lane. Wake up people, it is winter!
