ST. PAUL (Minn.) – Two men approached a Milwaukee house last week and open fire with their guns, killing a 5-year-old child who was inside, sitting on her grandfather’s lap.

Special Agent in Charge James C. Modzelewski of the St. Paul Field Division, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) announced that ATF is offering a reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for the Nov. 7 murder of the 5-year-old child.

On Nov. 6, shortly after 6 p.m., two individuals approached a residence located at the 5000 block of North 58th Street and fired multiple times at the residence. One bullet penetrated a wall, fatally striking 5-year-old Laylah C. Petersen in the head as she sat with her grandfather. The shooters subsequently fled the scene.

“This barbaric act will not be tolerated by law enforcement or the community. The loss of a child by this reckless act is incomprehensible,” Modzelewski said. “There is no higher priority than apprehending these criminals. Justice will be served, and these individuals will be held accountable for their actions.”
