MASON CITY – A Mason City man is jailed Thursday for skipping his arraignment connected to a third degree theft charge.
Matthew Donald Tobin, age 23, was due in court Wednesday for an arraignment, as he was charged by Mason City police with theft in the third degree. When he failed to show, a warrant for his arrest was issued. He was arrested the same day and jailed on $2,000 cash bond.
Earlier this year, Tobin was charged by Forest City police with felony domestic assault involving strangulation. In August, he accepted a plea deal to first offense domestic assault. He was jailed for two days and ordered to pay $597.64 in court costs and fines.
Tobin has been charged with various serious crimes throughout the North Iowa area, including willful injury causing bodily harm (Franklin county), burglary (Cerro Gordo), theft (Cerro Gordo), drug possession, drunk driving (Cerro Gordo), and more.
