Huge reward increase announced in hunt for suspect in murder of MC man

SAINT PAUL, MN – Law enforcement in Minnesota continue to turn up the heat on a man suspected of murdering a former Mason City resident.

On Wednesday, September 10, 2014, the Ramsey County Sheriff’s Office issued a revised wanted poster for Lyle Marvin “Ty” Hoffman. Hoffman is wanted in connection with the August 11, 2014 murder of Kelly Phillips – formerly of Mason City, Iowa – in Arden Hills, Minnesota.

The new wanted poster reflects a reward that has increased significantly from the original $1,000 to now offering up to $40,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of Hoffman. The reward is offered by Crime Stoppers, and the funds were raised by friends and family of Kelly Phillips, along with the community.

Kelly Phillips, Vice President and General Counsel for Boston Scientific, was shot three times and killed in a gas station parking lot. Investigators identified Hoffman, Phillips’ former business partner, as the shooter. Hoffman is also believed to have robbed a branch of TCF Bank in Blaine on August 30. The handgun used in the shooting and the bank has not been recovered. Hoffman should be considered armed and dangerous.

The last confirmed sighting of Hoffman was early last week in the vicinity of Shakopee and Prior Lake.
