MASON CITY – A Mason City man charged with theft skipped his trial date and was on the lam for nearly two weeks before police nabbed him in another county.

Dustin Lucas Nesje, age 20, stands accused by Mason City police of fifth degree theft after a June 18 incident. Police said that on June 19, a subject reported his bike was stolen. The bike had been located at a local pawn shop and had recently been pawned by Nesje.

After an investigation, a warrant for Nesje’s arrest was issued on June 19, and Cerro Gordo deputies caught up with him four days later on June 23. Quickly released from jail, Nesje took to social media that day and said “***K MASON CITY COPS AND THE JAIL!!”

Nesje was set for a non-jury trial on August 13 but failed to appear in court. On August 25, Winnebago county law enforcement caught Nesje and he was sent to the Cerro Gordo County Jail where he is being held on $600 bond. He now awaits a September 10, 2014 trial date.
