MASON CITY – A Mason City man is in jail, accused of serious charges after an investigation at his home.
Police say that Dacota Witham, age 26, left his 7-month-old child home alone this weekend.
“Witham allegedly left the child alone in the house for a period of time,” a Mason City police officer told NIT.
As police investigated at his home at 109 North Ohio Avenue, a gruesome discovery was made.
“During the investigation, a rotting dog carcass was discovered in the garage,” the officer told NIT.
Witham was also charged with cruelty to animals for his alleged “inhumane treatment” of the dog before it died.
According to social media, the dog was a female named Kiara. Before police went to Witham’s house to investigate, the dog’s owner had “went out to the garage to retrieve her personal items and discovered Kiara stuffed in (what looks like a garbage bag inside) an empty dog food bag.”
Witham remains jailed on $2,000 cash or surety bond.

These Hannibal Lecters don’t fear the consequences and that’s the problem. The punishments for some very heinous uncivilized crimes are far too easy. Doesn’t that suck when bad people take advantage of the evolution and niceties of a modern humane society? Torture the son of a bitch, then kick him off the island.

Glad they have him in custody, but he will be back out with a slap on the wrist. Makes me sick and pissed to see/hear what people do to animals and children!!! Mistreating animals and children does not make you cool or a tough guy, it makes you a worthless POS loser!!
He will get off on an insanity plea.
