MASON CITY – A deferred judgement apparently taught a Mason City woman no lesson.

Amanda Kay Jo Allen, age 22 of Mason City, was charged with felony D second degree theft (theft of property exceeding one thousand dollars but not exceeding ten thousand dollars) by check by Mason City police in 2013. The case finally went to trial in May of 2014, and the honorable Judge Karen Salic handed Allen a deferred judgement. All Allen had to do was abide by the terms of her probation and pay $2,424.57 in fines, court fees and restitution.

In June, however, the Iowa Department of Corrections filed a probation violation report after Allen failed to make payments on her overdue balance. She failed to show up in court of July 25 and a warrant for her arrest was issued by Judge Salic. Allen was brought to jail on the evening of July 31 and held on $5,000 cash-only bond.
