Enchanted Acres holds grand opening

SHEFFIELD – Rain or shine, Enchanted Acres began its two-day, Grand Opening Celebration Saturday. Enchanted Acres describes the family-friendly venue as a place where “you can pick your own pumpkins, launch pumpkins from our all new Pumpkin Cannon, enjoy a full line up of pumpkin decorating classes, shop our retail store and giggle while watching our goats.”

“We are happy to have our Grand Opening this weekend,” said Shannon Latham, owner of Enchanted Acres. “We will have many different things going on, so please, go to our facebook page, like it, and keep checking what we’ll be offering each and every weekend.”

Wholly Smoke BBQ was serving lunch through dinner. All day long they had popcorn, cotton candy, hot dogs and ice cream cones. Face painting began at 11:00 am.

Nick McKinney was getting his face painted. When his mom, Jen Spiegel asked him if he wanted to saying anything, he just barely shook his head, trying not to disturb the painter.

A big part of Enchanted Acres, located outside of Sheffield at 1071 250th Street, in between Lark Ave. and Interstate 35) were the pumpkins and the pumpkin patch. Pumpkins were everywhere. You could pick your own, or there were many different shapes and sizes that you could just pick from. Along with the pumpkins, you can purchase flowers, cornstalks and crafts.

Spaghetti squash is just $1.00 each this weekend during Enchanted Acres’ grand opening celebration. Stop Sunday between 1:00 and 5:00 pm to get yours!

The huge, iconic pumpkin that once stood at Kriegers, now has found it’s new home at Enchanted Acres. Standing proud and getting it’s picture taken with many boys and girls.

The Davis family was in the pumpkin patch picking out their pumpkins. They had a wagon load. Mom, Jane and dad, Mark, were watching with enjoyment, their children, Parker and Madalyn and their niece Jada Beach fill that wagon with pumpkins. “Our son has Autism and has OCD when it comes to pumpkins, so we have several of them,” said Jane.

The rain did dampen the ability to run the train ride and the to have the pedal tractor pull.

“Since rain prohibited us from holding the pedal tractor pull this afternoon, we’ll do it tomorrow (Sunday) at 4:00 pm,” updated on the Enchanted Acres Facebook page. A list of scheduled events can be found on their website enchantedacresiowa.com.
