Official statement on hiring of Nick Trask as MCHS basketball coach

logo-MohawksMason City High School is proud to announce Nick Trask as their new Head Boys Basketball Coach:

Nick Trask is a 2001 graduate of Charles City High School where he played basketball with teammates Greg Brunner and David Rottinghaus. He graduated from Waldorf College Summa Cum Laude in 2005 with a Degree in History Education and has been teaching at Mason City High School for nine years. During Nick’s tenure at MCHS, he has been the JV and an Assistant Varsity Girls Basketball Coach. As a member of the girls coaching staff, he helped turn a struggling program into a program with a tradition of success as was evident with the three consecutive years of state appearances and several conference titles. Nick’s JV record was 110-74. He also is an Assistant JV Boys Soccer Coach (3 years) and an Assistant High School Football Coach (1 year).

Nick lives in Mason City with his wife Kathleen and seven year old daughter, Machaela. They are also expecting a daughter in August.

Nick is excited to be named the Head Boys Coach for the Mohawk Boys Basketball Program. He looks forward to bringing his passion and excitement to the program and building a tradition of success for the boys program.

I heard Marquardt and Bookmeyer are going to take over mixed martial arts program as Co-Coaches.

I am sure this guy will be fine and I wish him well. But, I don’t understand any of this coaching issue. First with the AD and then Penner saying we are short 5 coaches, then Jeff Horner’s comments, which I thought were right on.. Then not even a mention of rehiring award winning coach, Bob Horner. There has to be more to it than what we are seeing. It appears that the people are finally speaking up and asking the School board questions,– which rarely happens. About time!!
